"We don't use our body to get into a pose,
we use the pose to get into our body."
- Bernie Clark
Yin Yoga is a quiet and passive practice that works on a very deep level to awaken the connective tissue of your body, also known as fascia, as well as targeting the joints and bones. Studies have shown that it’s not just muscles that need conditioning as we age; connective tissue also needs our attention, to avoid the stiffening and hardening that takes place in our bodies as we get older. The key to the Yin Yoga experience is 3 fold: come into the pose to an appropriate depth, resolve to remain as still as you can while in the pose, and hold the pose for a time. These longer holds in stillness work the deep layers of connective tissue which may otherwise become stiff and less mobile as we age or as we engage in vigorous physical activity. Yin Yoga is the perfect complement to your more active, or yang, yoga practice as well as athletic disciplines such as running, skiing, bicycling and all team sports. Yin Yoga is suitable for students of all levels of experience*. This class is 1 hour and 15 minutes long. The intention... that this practice will instill a feeling of groundedness, and leave you feeling mellow, loose and very deeply relaxed.
I welcome you to YINstillYOGA. *Please note: Yin Yoga is not restorative yoga. If the tissues you are targeting are damaged in some way, please give yourself a chance to heal before undertaking this practice. |
